NFL Week 1 Predictions: San Diego Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs 9/11/16

A rout of the Houston Texans in January was the Chiefs’ first postseason victory since Joe Montana led them in January 1994.

The Chiefs worked their craft nearly to perfection over the final two-thirds of the 2015 season.

San Diego is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road games, and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 overall. The Chiefs will have to look to stop big plays from Rivers, who’s shown a tendency for throwing turnovers when pressured. Two of Smith’s favorite targets return in Jeremy Maclin (1,088 yards, eight TDs) and tight end Travis Kelce (875, five) and he will benefit from having Charles back soon, if not on Sunday.

Mike McCoy has a 22-26 record since taking over in 2013.

According to ESPN’s matchup predictor, which is based on its Football Power Index, Kansas City wins the matchup between the two team 73.4% of the time. Not to mention Oakland, who looks to be up-and-coming. Do not hesitate to get him in there.

Berry, who beat cancer to earn a Pro Bowl berth and comeback player of the year honors in 2015, should be good to go against the Chargers. Reid and new offensive coordinators Brad Childress and Matt Nagy will instead go with the hot hand. A 2015 rookie who had a very productive college career at Wisconsin, Gordon has yet to score a National Football League touchdown or even rush for 100 yards in a game. I believe they will once again be on the cusp of the playoffs, but the Chiefs are the superior team in this match-up, and given the game is at home, they should be able to come away with their third win of the season in as many games. They throw the ball often and well, and won’t stop this season.

Rawls dealt with ankle issues all offseason, played only sparingly in the fourth preseason game and missed practice Thursday with an illness. They needed Bosa to help upgrade an average pass-rush. Two weeks after losing Houston, his replacement, Dee Ford, turned in the best game of his career with three sacks and a critical pass breakup against the Chargers. The key will be getting to Rivers. The Chiefs got to Rivers for five sacks (Dee Ford accounted for three of the five Chiefs’ sacks) and one interception. However, I see this playing out as a very close game.
