The NHL’s 2016-17 regular season schedule, released Tuesday morning, has the Western Conference champion Sharks playing 12 of their first 18 games on the road.

The NHL Heritage Classic will be staged October 23 at Winnipeg between the host Jets and Edmonton at the home stadium of the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers while the Penguins play host to the Philadelphia Flyers on February 25 at the home of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Penguins will begin the preseason with back-to-back road games against the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks on September 27 and 28, respectively.

Jim Rutherford, executive vice president and general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins, announced that the club and forward Kevin Porter have agreed upon the terms of a contract extension.

The deal is a two-way contract that has an average annual value of $575,000 at the National Hockey League level.

During the regular season he had a 1:51 average time on ice for short-handed minutes. The 5-foot-11, 191-pound native of Detroit played in 41 regular-season games before his season came to a close on March 3 when he suffered a broken ankle.
