NI fans enjoy first Star Wars screenings

The man who showed it was possible to reboot an established franchise with his “Star Trek” movies is helping ring in a new era of “Star Wars” with “The Force Awakens”. Following Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be Alejandro González Iñárritu’s gritty drama The Revenant (opening here Jan 7), where Gleeson will be starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. As a terminal Star Wars fan, I implored my coworkers to try and find a Star Wars newbie in the wild (or at least the friendly confines of our office). Daisy Ridley plays a scavenger who joins the resistance and John Boyega is a storm trooper who has gone rouge and decides to battle the forces of evil.

In all honesty it may require multiple viewings and a step back from the sheer relief that this is a proper darn Star Wars film to make that judgement.

He said “I think “Star Wars” has lasted so long because of the underlying mythology which came from [creator] George Lucas’ wonderful imagination and it gets passed on from generation to generation by families because there’s a useful nugget of human truth in it”.

He also told InStyle.com that co-stars Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) were his heroes when he was a kid.

Before the film: We just don’t want it to be too bad. “The most exciting thing for me is crossing that bridge between something we know is real and something that is extraordinary”. How easy? She said: “I was really astounded by how extraordinary it looked”. What is it like to write something knowing that thousands of people will do everything they can to avoid reading what you’ve written for fear of spoilers?

“What we are counting on is that this will be a repeat-view movie and from what I’ve seen Disney has the goods”.

After the film: I’m still awake, so that’s a good endorsement.
