The NIA has been on the look out for the truck driver since the past two weeks. “For that he was in jail for more than two-and-a-half years”, an NIA statement said. He was arrested by the police also for his alleged involvement in stone-pelting and rioting during the unrest in 2010 and 2011 in the Kashmir Valley.

Naveed, who told his interrogators about Khursheed, was taken to Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir today. During the reconnaissance mission, the timings of BSF and Army convoys were marked. The NIA had issued sketches on Tuesday (August 18) of the suspects on the basis of their description by the militant arrested during the Udhampur attack, Naved.

The NIA has also taken DNA and voice samples of Naved. On Friday, he was taken to Jammu by road to identify the places where he had stayed with Noaman before the two left for Udhampur.

Information about Khursheed was given by Naved, who is in Srinagar in NIA custody.

A senior police officer told Deccan Herald the NIA made the arrest after receiving the go-ahead from its chief Sharad Kumar, who was here to review the case’s progress. They have also questioned about a dozen people detained by the police on charges of helping Naved.

NIA today released a photograph, which it had recovered during raids at various terror hideouts in the valley, of one of the accused identified as Abu Okasha, a resident of Khyber Paktukhwa in Pakistan. They had allegedly infiltrated along with Naved and Noaman to launch an attack in India.

The NIA is reconstructing the sequence of events that led to Udhampur attack and is taking him to places that he has mentioned during interrogation.
