NIA detains 5 people for suspected links with ISIS

The National Investigation Agency on Wednesday busted a suspected ISIS terror module and detained 11 people for questioning in Hyderabad.

According to sources, the Hyderabad-based module was in contact with similar groups spread across the country through social networking and they were planning to target VIPs.

– “Kaam ko anjaam dene ke liye tayaar hai hum” – Another one. “Further details will follow”, NIA inspector general Sanjiv Singh said about the operation. Some graduates were among those detained after the searches, the agency said.

The suspects – aged between 20 and 42 – were allegedly plotting bomb attacks and indiscriminate firing on shopping malls and crowded places in the city, NIA sources said.

The arrests were made from houses in Chandrayangutta, Mirchowk, Talabkatta, Bhavaninagar, and Mogalpura. Officers found ammonium nitrate and hydrogen peroxide stored in the houses of these four youths.

An FIR was registered against them on June 22. Numerous suspects were also training to shoot. They had stocked up arms and explosives and were planning on striking soon, NIA officials also informed. Officials had learnt that these persons were in touch with some persons in Syria who are suspected to be their handlers. Meanwhile another important transaction of 5000 Dirham was sent by these terror suspects, likely to a location in Dubai.

The NIA sleuths also recovered weapons, ammunition, urea, acid, some chemicals, electronic gadgets and other incriminating material besides Rs 15 lakh in cash from their possession, officials of NIA and Hyderabad Police said.
