Nick Kyrgios BLASTS Wimbledon umpire following second-round win over Juan

Kyrgios’ 7-6 (7/5), 6-3, 6-4 victory against Argentine star Juan Monaco was tainted by Kyrgios’ spat over a linesman’s report that he was swearing – a move he brought up with on-court umpire Nilli. Kyrgios responded by saying, sarcastically, in the judge’s direction: ‘What a champion this bloke is.’. Does it feel good to be in the chair up there?

“Does it feel strong to be up there?” On court, while telling increasingly-riled up fans to “stop it”, Kyrgios asked Nilli: “But what did he say?”

“He’s playing well I will have to take care of my serve and make the most of the other opportunities”. “A bit of stress out there”. I guess you have to be a bit careful. In fact after the win vs Rafa a year ago, John Mcenroe had said, “I think we have found the next guy in the men’s game”. ‘After last year’s performance against him, I’m confident I can do well, ‘ Kyrgios said.

“I’m aware of what I’m saying”, he said.

On day 1 of Wimbledon, Kyrgios had a run-in with the chair-umpire during his first round match after a contentious line-call saw him lose a point. There was a mini resurgence from the ex- world number ten where he nearly broke Kyrgios’ serve, and the Aussie himself slightly drifted away towards the end.

One of them, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, said “tennis needed players like Thanasi”.

Kyrgios, who made his name with a stunning fourth round win over Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon past year, continued to let off steam and with the youngster’s grumbling showing no signs of abating, a line judge standing nearby went to speak to Bernardes.

Tomic will provide a tougher test, although the powerful 27th seed has never beaten Djokovic in the pair’s previous four meetings, which included a Wimbledon quarter-final in 2011.

Tomic sought medical assistance as temperatures nudged 30 degrees, but showed true grit to grind out a 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 7-6 (7-5) win over Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Serena Williams admits her quest to complete a calendar year Grand Slam is at the forefront of her mind after advancing into the third round.

The Canadian has already fired down a 233kph thunderbolt, the fastest serve of the tournament, and 56 aces – nearly double Kyrgios’s 28 – in his opening two matches.

“I don’t know what he said. That’s not really easy”.

Granollers damaged Court 17 in a racquet-wielding tantrum during his second-round loss to Leonardo Mayer and, not surprisingly, All England Club officials were none too pleased.

Ninth seed Marin Cilic was also made to sweat as he squeezed through 6-3 4-6 7-6 (8/6) 4-6 7-5 against Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis while Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic and Grigor Dimitrov are also safely through.
