Nick Mangold listed as doubtful for Jets, will travel to Oakland

The positional unit is a little thin heading into Sunday’s affair with the Oakland Raiders, with that being said, is it time to turn to the practice squad and bring up a familiar face in Rontez Miles?

Mangold will travel with the team. Ridley hasn’t played since tearing two knee ligaments while with New England in October 2014.

Mangold was hurt when he was hit while engaged as a blocker and the injury required x-rays.

Mangold was still listed as doubtful to play, though, and those signs pointing to his absence from the lineup proved correct. “If things happen and I can’t play, I’ll deal with that at that time. I know he’s planning on playing, but as a backup, you always have to be ready”.

Dakota Dozier and Wesley Johnson split first-team center reps throughout the week, and Bowles said no decision has been made regarding who would start if Mangold is out.

Head coach Todd Bowles was asked about his comfort level with the position, emergency situations and more during his weekly press conference ahead of their Week 8 match-up with the Raiders.

Ridley could make his Jets’ debut, considering that second-string running back Bilal Powell (ankle) has been ruled out for a second consecutive game. C Nick Mangold (neck) and WR Chris Owusu (concussion) did not practice on Friday. With Decker’s injury and Owusu and Smith out, the Jets have just three healthy wide receivers: Brandon Marshall, Jeremy Kerley and Kenbrell Thompkins. “We do not get into details of specific games”. “I’m doing everything I can to prepare myself for Sunday”.

Marcus Gilchrist will be starting at S along with Dion Bailey, who came on for Pryor vs. the Patriots.

BRIEFS: Former Jets QB Boomer Esiason said during Westwood One’s radio broadcast of the Miami-New England game Thursday night that a source told him the Jets had requested the National Football League to sweep the visiting locker room for hidden listening devices before the Jets played at New England last Sunday. Pryor said it’s “more of a high” sprain.
