Reactions on social media to Brexiteer Nigel Farage’s resignation announcement from the UKIP leadership ranged from glee and mockery to anger and scorn.
Mr Islam said most political careers end in disgrace – but Farage leaves on a high.
Following the UK’s vote to leave the European Union on the 23rd of June, the man widely regarded as the biggest “winner” after the shock result has resigned from his post.
He said he now wants a cross party team to negotiate the UK’s exit from Brussels but he said the most important thing was that the team knows how to win the best deal.
Farage previously tried to quit as UKIP leader following the 2015 election, only to later change his mind.
It is the third time he has resigned as UKIP leader, but he dismissed the idea of coming back again in the future. This time, he says it’s for good.
Boris Johnson, the Conservative politician and former London mayor who led the “Leave” campaign, ruled himself out of the race to replace Cameron as prime minister.
Ms Evans, the party’s parliamentary spokeswoman, is now suspended from the party for public criticisms she made of it.
Farage declined to endorse a replacement for the leadership of the right-wing party or for the next UK Prime Minister.
Who is Mr Farage, and why is this news so important? “I don’t think I’ve seen any politician work so hard for what they believe in”.
UKIP Wales leader Nathan Gill has told BBC Wales he is not ruling himself out of his party’s United Kingdom leadership contest.
“During the referendum I said I wanted my country back.now I want my life back”, he added.
Mr Farage said his political career since first standing for Ukip in the Eastleigh by-election of 1994 had been “a long journey, not at every stage of the way an easy one, although most of it, I have to say, has been tremendous fun”.
