Nigel Pearson appointed Derby County boss

Though nobody at King Power Stadium will complain about how things turned out, former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson deserves significant credit for both the club’s promotion to the Premier League and their subsequent survival in the 2014-15 season.

One of Nottingham Forest’s original manager targets, Nigel Pearson, is reportedly emerging as the front-runner to take charge of the Reds’ bitter rivals Derby County. It is firmly focused on achieving Premier League football, ” Pearson told the club’s official website, dcfc.co.uk.

Pearson takes over from Darren Wassall, who stepped up from his role as academy director in February after Paul Clement was sacked.

After his infamous “ostrich” rant in the aftermath of Leicester’s loss to Chelsea last April, there’s a clear warning here not to get on the wrong side of Pearson.

It is understood Pearson only held talks with Derby this week but he quickly became the frontrunner for the job and he now ends his 11-month absence from management.

The following season, under his replacement Claudio Ranieri, the Foxes went on to win the Premier League title.

“Nigel is a highly sought after, talented, manager and I know he will give us absolutely everything to make this club successful”.

“It is also great to have Chris Powell back at the football club as our Assistant Manager”.
