They lost 2-0 to Algeria in the semi-finals and will face Senegal again in the third place playoff on Saturday with the victor booking their place at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Daniel denied the Senegalese team several chances and even saved a penalty to lead Nigeria to the finals of the ongoing tournament.
Senegal paid for their wastefulness when Ousseynou Thioune handled and Etebo stroked the ball into the left corner on 77 minutes while goalkeeper and captain Pape Seydou Ndiaye dived in the opposite direction.
Both Senegal and SA missed out on the chance to secure an automatic qualification for the Games in Rio by losing their semifinals to Nigeria and Algeria respectively.
“They should beef up the grey areas in the team with the reservoir of players across the globe”.
The Lions of Teranga topped Group A with maximum nine points, and also boast of a very good defence as they won all their matches in the group stage, scoring six goals and conceding just one. “On another day, we could have been embarrassed”, Siasia said afterwards.
“We have not been paid a kobo yet”, had lamented a player of the team.
“I think “the gods of football” were with my team today because Senegal created most of the chances but they failed to score”, admitted the Nigeria coach.
In Saturday’s final, Samson Siasia’s boys will take on Algeria at the same Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor in Dakar.
