Nigeria UN Speech 2015: Nigerian President Pledges To Defeat Boko Haram

Speaking about the president’s recent visit to the U.S., Abubakar noted that Buhari’s discussions with world leaders at the session of the United Nations (UN) General assembly was timely as it gave the nation an opportunity to present its case and its need to fight insurgency in the country.

President Barack Obama on 25 September delegated authority to the Secretary of State to direct the drawdown of up to $45 million in defense articles and services, as well as military education and training, to support Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria’s efforts to defeat Boko Haram.

He also reassured the global community that rescuing the over 200 abducted Chibok schoolgirls remained one of the major objectives of his administration. He also said that this task force had driven the insurgents away from many of their strongholds, killed or captured many of their operatives or commanders and freed several hundreds of hostages.

“The Nigerian Armed Forces have renewed commitment to continue the ongoing coordinated joint assaults on Boko Haram in the North-East until the operations of the guerrillas are totally impaired and collapsed”.

“Let me reaffirm the Nigerian government’s unwavering commitment to fight corruption and illicit financial flows”. He emphasised that while Boko Haram celebrates violence against the weak and the innocent, they, however, hide behind their perverted interpretation of Islam, saying that “Boko Haram is as far away from Islam as anyone can think of”.

Friends of Nigeria and foreign investor partners will be encouraged to know that the new Government is attacking the problems we inherited head-on. “From his hesitancy and comments, it is deducible that President Buhari never meant to appoint ministers but rather prefers to run a monocracy and evidently does not value or respect those he would nominate as ministers”, Metuh said.

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on world leaders to help return loots hidden in their countries by corrupt Nigerian officials as cross border financial crimes is a major obstacle to development and economic growth. We are working round the clock to ensure their safety and eventual reunion with their families.

Emerging reports have suggested that Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari was embarrassed during a United Nations General Assembly Meeting in New York. “Chibok girls are constantly on our minds and in our plans”, he stated.

President Buhari condemned the new and risky dimension which human trafficking has assumed in the world. We in Africa are grieved to see on global networks how hundreds of thousands of our able bodied men and women fleeing to Europe and in the process thousands dying in the desert or drowning in the Mediterranean.

Buhari also called for the urgent resolution of the question of self determination for the people of Palestine and Western Sahara.
