Nigerian leader ready to engage Boko Haram on abducted girls
“We are prepared to negotiate with them (Boko Haram’s leadership) without precondition”, Buhari said in his inaugural media chat broadcast on radio and television.

“We are most uncomfortable about his attempt at trying to whip up public sentiments against an independent arm of government, especially the one vested with the constitutional power of appropriation”.
However, the president pledged the government was willing to undertake unconditional negotiations with the militants to secure the girls’ release.
Britain on Tuesday condemned the recent Boko Haram bomb attacks in Nigeria and reiterated British support to the Nigerian government.
Buhari also said there was no information available to his government about the whereabouts of the schoolgirls of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State that were abducted by Boko Haram since April 14, 2014. They noted in that Nigeria’s leader of seven many months had stated up to now in that the war wouldn’t be won until the Chibok girls have been rescued.
He insisted that the federal government would have to wait for the investigative panels set up by the Kaduna State, the military and other related agencies before speaking further on the issue. It has been hit hard by falling oil prices while the insurgency and restrictions on foreign exchange have deterred investors. GDP growth rate for Nigeria plunged from 6.23 percent in the third quarter of 2014 to 2.35 percent in the second quarter of this year.
The President said: “I am aware that Nigerians have experienced a number of significant hardships over the past months”.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said the challenges facing the nation are temporary and will soon fizzle out. But these attacks have proven to be extremely deadly, he warned.
“The suicide attacks were carried out by young suicide bombers who managed to make their way into the city during the gun battle between soldiers and Boko Haram gunmen last night”.
But when pressed, he said: “The hijab would have to be banned if these bombings continue”.
Clad in a white kaftan, the president answered questions on a wide range of topics, from security to the economy, unemployment and the Biafra secessionist movement. “I told them that the vehicles I have are good enough for 10 years”.

But in response, the PDP said: “whilst we restate our respect for the person and office of the President, we note that President Buhari bared his true colours to the world as an unrepentant tyrant”.
