They may have broken up off-screen in 2013, but Nina Dobrev, 26, and Ian Somerhalder, 36, have been lovers on The Vampire Diaries for quite some time.

For the 2015 Teen Choice Awards, the actress was nominated in the category Choice TV Actress in a Sci-Fi Fantasy or Drama. But, Nina Dobrev, you proved us wrong.

It wasn’t long ago that Dobrev reunited with her two closest friends from The Vampire Diaries cast to celebrate the wedding of one and now Nina has again rejoined the cast of The Vampire Diaries in spirit, if not in person, for the Teen Choice Awards. After failing to speak coherently with the fangs on, the actress took out her prop then stated, “That’s right, I don’t need this anymore”. “So the last few months have been a pretty big change for me”, she said. This is especially scary if that new beginning is coming from an unknown place or if you have no destination in mind.
Before she accepted her surfboard and lef the stage, Dobrev had one last message for fans.
Change comes because that is life, people grow up and they learn new things. As this chapter of my life comes to an end, I look back at it with a grateful heart, and I smile, because just like my character Elena, I started the show as a young girl, and together we grew up. Over the last six years, we’ve become women.
With this speech, the actress also expressed all of her thanks to the fans who have supported since the very beginning of this journey.
