Nintendo Confirms Super Mario Run is Officially Coming to App Store
Nintendo is working on a new game for Apple iOS platform, which will be called Super Mario Run, the company announced on stage at the iPhone 7 launch event in California. Multiplayer is also an option, pitting you against your friends in the same map. The app will have one upfront fee to access the full game – it will feature no in-app purchases.

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, father of Mario, took to the stage at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco alongside Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook to announce the coming game. When Pokemon Go came along, it was a sure-fire sign that people wanted the Nintendo experience on mobile phones.
Nintendo plans to unveil more mobile titles early in 2017. Based on gameplay footage, Super Mario Run is side-scrolling “runner”-style platformer optimized for one-handed play on touchscreen”. The first mode is the one we explained above, which is a number of courses to play through and complete. And the third lets you “create your own Mushroom Kingdom” using the coins you’ve snatched in the prior two modes.
There will also be an interactive competitive mode, where players can challenge others’ high scores.
“Super Mario Run” isn’t a free game – it will cost a “set price”, which Miyamoto was careful to point out. Nintendo rather said it would be on iOS first, and now, Kotaku has obtained confirmation from Nintendo that the game will indeed be coming to Android in the future…
