Nintendo Doesn’t Think VR Is Ready For Mainstream
Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Nintendo of America’s President Reggie Fils-Aime revealed the company’s stance on VR, and from what he said it doesn’t sound like Nintendo believes that VR is ready for mainstream consumption at the moment. “For us, it’s about the content”, he said.

“Whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that’s for them to fight out”. No other titles were announced for the NX, leading many to wonder if “Just Dance” is the only Ubisoft game available for the console or if the developer isn’t allowed to reveal any other Nintendo NX games.
When Nintendo officially confirmed the existence of the then-heavily rumored Nintendo NX, it noted that the console won’t be making its debut at this month’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

He continued, “Nintendo is a content focused company”. It’s will provide support for virtual reality hardware, which makes sense since most hardware and software nowadays are leaning toward VR. With PS VR set to launch this October, there’s an expectation that Sony will help push virtual reality into the mainstream with a more accessible, plug-and-play, high-end VR experience. We have the gamepad going right now on the Wii U, that’s a great way to interact with two different screens. “It’s about what we want to talk about this year and how we want to get the word out”. Third party developers had trouble creating ports that incorporated the gimmick of the Wii, but a low price point and casual gamer appeal saved that console. The upcoming Nintendo NX is described as “an entirely new idea” so it’ll be interesting to see which way things will go this time around. In recent years, it has concentrated instead on offering affordable platforms for its much-loved IP, culminating in an eight-generation console – the Wii U – which has more in common with its seventh-generation predecessor than rival eight-generation devices.
