Nintendo NX reportedly delayed to 2017 to add VR functionality
As spotted by Nintendo Life, Digitimes reports that the first production for Nintendo NX components has now been pushed back to early 2017, having originally been pencilled in for the middle of 2016.

Ltd. (OTCMKTS:NTDOY) has delayed the mass production of its upcoming NX console; Nintendo was expected to order a production start for mid-2016.
It was already revealed that the new Nintendo NX console will be a handheld device that will feature a 5 to 7-inch screen display, joystick and controller. DigiTimes reached out to Foxconn Electronics (the company actually doing the assembly work), but they refused to comment.
The leak is that Nintendo NX is now going to have a Virtual Reality (VR) function, something they wish to include seeing the changing competition in the gaming industry – and something we told you four months ago!
“The sources pointed out that the Nintendo NX combines the video gaming experience with the mobile gaming experience”, the site writes. As of the moment, they lowered it down to 9.5-10 million units for shipment.
The sources also say that Nintendo has reduced its order volume for the NX.
As the Nintendo NX is a confirmed no-show for E3 2016 this June, it is likely that the release date of the device will be moved from March 2017 to the months before the E3 edition of next year.
Although Pegatron Technology has been aggressively looking to take some of the Nintendo NX orders from Foxconn, Nintendo still made a decision to give Foxconn over 40% of the orders, while the remaining is handled by Japan-based Misumi and Hosiden.
While its rivals, Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox, have reveled in putting more power and monster specs to their consoles, Nintendo has largely been focused on creating systems that are specifically designed for games and gamers alone.

They also reiterated that the console will be a console and mobile hybrid, sounding a bit like the current Wii U GamePad, but not as large and can go anywhere.
