Nintendo reports profit but no word on new president

Remember that Wii U, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo DSi feature parental controls that let adults manage some of the content their children can access. According to CNET, Nintendo sold its 10 millionth Wii U during the first fiscal quarter which ended in June 30. 2 million from last year’s 4.4 million units sold. After leading the last console race with its wildly popular Wii, Nintendo was shooting for similar success with its Wii U launch in 2012.

Wii U sales might be some way behind the competition, but that hasn’t stopped Nintendo from turning in yet another surprising profit.

Right now, that only leaves Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as core Nintendo Wii U games that are due for release in Western territories. The milestone was undercut by disappointing Wii U sales of just 470,000 units worldwide during the three-month period.

Frogmind’s Badland: Game of the Year Edition, Renegade Kid’s Xeodrifter and Endless Golf from Fanttum Games round out the new Wii U releases, with Nintendo 3DS owners treated to Bigben Interactive’s Mahjong and Solitaire titles as well as Flick Golf 3D from Full Fat Productions. Sony announced that the PS4 reached sales of 10 million units in less than a year while the Xbox One reached 10 million sales in just over a year.

This was the first quarterly call since the death of Satoru Iwata on July 11 of a bile duct growth.

Over time it seems more and more likely that Nintendo is planning the NX for a 2016 release.

Of course, the game schedules indicated things that the company already announced, which means that if the game is slated for 2016, it is intended for 2016 – except that it does not have a specific release date yet. Unlike jumping from say, PS3 to PS4, Nintendo’s systems are pretty fundamentally different from one another in recent years, and the NX has promised another “new way to play”.

The partners will develop original games optimized for smartphones and tablet computers rather than converting titles from the Wii U and 3DS.

Nintendo always holds in-house presentations each quarter and at that time, they also release details online for us to see.

It took Nintendo 2 years and 7 months to count that elusive 10 millionth sale more than three times as long as it took for the PS4
