Nintendo Soars 55% In Four Days As Pokemon Go Mania Grips Gamers

The Pokemon Go app, has been downloaded more times in a week than the dating app Tinder has in its four years of existence, with Nintendo having to pause the game’s global roll-out, in order to boost server capacity.

The mobile augmented-reality game has 21 million users in the United States, edging out Candy Crush’s 20 million for the title of biggest mobile game.

Pokemon Go may be good at bringing in new users, but its ability to retain them is just as impressive. Candy Crush which was reported to have a whopping 93 million users as its highest ever worldwide is been put back in the race of gaming by Pokemon Go which broke even Candy Crush’s record. Pokemon GO is undoubtedly the biggest game of 2016. It is also on track to surpass Snapchat as well as Google maps.

The game that is evoking love for Pokemon all over again is said to have earned millions of dollars in its launch week itself. That’s an absurd number of players for any mobile game, with SurveryMonkey pointing out that at this point, more people are using the Google Maps-powered Pokemon GO than they’re using Google Maps itself.

Sure, the numbers of installs and users are important, but what about engagement? As the report points out, that kind of revenue is more than enough to motivate Niantic and Nintendo to keep players engaged through things like content updates that would add Pokemon and features to the game.

“The expectation is that Pokemon Go’s success will contribute to the success of Nintendo’s other original games, and even to the success of its next game console”, SMBC Nikko Securities analyst Eiji Maeda told AFP.
