Nintendo Switch Online Service Detailed, Includes 20 Classic NES Games

Being part of the Nintendo Switch Online service allows members to upload save data online for easy access. Though you have to pay for the service on PlayStation too, you at least get the option to copy your saves onto a USB too, an options that was also present on the Wii U. No such luck with the Switch though. Nintendo Switch Online will also allow backup save-data for most games, and utilize additional features for the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app.

Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online: Subscribers will have access to NES – Nintendo Switch Online, a compilation of classic NES games. Despite being released in March of 2017, the Nintendo Switch featured barebones online features at launch.

Full details of the feature have not yet been revealed, but will mean that your hundreds of hours clocked up on Zelda won’t be lost if your Switch goes to Borksville, or gets bricked by a 3rd party accessory. This will cost $34.99 a year, but it includes eight memberships.

As for cloud saves, Nintendo is finally enabling Switch owners to recover their game data if they lose or break a system.

According to Nintendo, all of the above will launch with some form of online functionality whether it be co-operative/competitive multiplayer, sharing your screen or passing the controller across systems.

The other exclusive feature is 20 “free” NES game with new online features. Along with Nintendo’s normal pricing plan, there is to be a Family Membership Plan.

For now, on-line play stays free, however that may change to requiring a subscription come September.
