The Japanese automaker had resisted recalling 298,747 2012-15 Versa and Versa Note cars even as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation in August 2014.

This morning, Nissan issued two recalls affecting more than 300,000 late-model Nissan Versa, Versa Note, and Armada vehicles. The automaker is recalling the vehicles because the console panel could catch the driver’s shoe which could slow braking speed. As a result, owners are unable to take their foot off the gas to tap the brakes, increasing the risk of an accident. A complimentary fix will be done to affected vehicles by modifying the trim panel so it no longer poses a hazard to drivers.
The recalled 2015 Nissan Armada SUVs were manufactured April 30, 2015, to June 5, 2015.
The console plastic trim recall should begin in mid-October 2015.
Due to a material handling issue at the seat belt buckle supplier, a partially filled tote of incorrect seat belt buckle subassemblies (intended for a different vehicle) was mixed into another tote of correct buckle subassemblies.
The recall would affect model years 2012-2015 Nissan Versa Sedan, 2014-2015 Versa Note and 2014-2015 Micra vehicles, Nissan said.
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will modify the console trim panel, free of charge.

On July 15, Nissan met with NHTSA to update officials on the service campaign repairs and to “further consult on the subject condition and the appropriate campaign classification”.
