Japanese auto-maker Nissan’s low-priced brand Datsun has embarked on a new journey with the launch of India-made Datsun Go+ MPV in South Africa. Most recently, exports of Datsun redi-GO cars produced in Chennai went on sale in Nepal in July.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance Chennai plant, which has a manufacturing capacity of 480,000 units per annum, is the Alliance’s largest plant in the world and is among the leading passenger auto exporters in India. The opening of this plant has led to the creation of over 40,000 direct and indirect jobs. “The launch in South Africa of the Datsun GO+ mark Datsun’s ongoing commitment to broaden the brand’s reach in global markets”, said the company in a statement. In 2015-16, Nissan Motor India exported a total of 111,460 units. Nissan revived the Datsun brand especially for the low-priced cars in 2013.
