Nissan teases new concept auto for Tokyo Motor Show

The concept, which is a small electric hatchback, includes a V-shaped grille, arrow-like headlights and what looks like a split C-pillar, all of which are the latest styling themes used by Nissan, according to Motor Authority.

Yet unnamed, Nissan simply described it as, “the future vision of auto intelligence and electrification”, sending signals that the new concept auto would be an all-electric vehicle with, perhaps, autonomous driving technology.

Nissan has confirmed plans, via its Leaf Piloted Drive 1.0 concept project, to put autonomous vehicles on public roads by the end of the decade.

The Japanese automaker may also take after what Toyota does with its Prius and release several Leaf body styles, Green vehicle Reports noted.

The Nissan Leaf has been one of the most practical pure electric family cars on sale.

Nissan says that the system’s ability to change lanes in heavy traffic is supported by a special high-spec laser scanner that determines the distance and speed between neighbouring vehicles, determining whether there is space enough to make a move. Also, a new driver interface is featured in the prototype, including a heads-up display and a centre cluster that gives drivers a 360 degree view of the car’s surroundings when it’s in Piloted Drive mode. That’s all we know right now but we’ll have more details soon, as the Tokyo Motor Show gets underway this Thursday, October 29.
