Nissan to Recall Altimas to Fix Hood Latches
Nissan Motor Co said Friday it will recall almost 930,000 Nissan cars worldwide for potentially faulty hood latches, marking the third time since 2014 the automaker has recalled vehicles to address the problem. Some 870,000 Altima sedans from the 2013-2015 model years are affected in North America including 846,000 in the US and 25,000 in Canada.

Nissan recalls Altimas for third time to fix hood latches that can cause hoods to fly open.
Nissan dealers will replace the hood latch with a new one.
The cars have both primary and secondary hood latches. That’s the latch under the hood that holds it in place after the primary hood latch under the dashboard has been activated.
The issue revolves around the cars’ second hood latch and, in this case, a rust coating said to have been applied incorrectly. The new unit features a better coating to avoid rust.
There aren’t any reported injuries because of the problem, but if there had been, the scene might’ve looked something like this.
Vehicle owners will be notified and a replacement latch will be available in mid-February.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received complaints from owners of Nissan’s Altima – which coincidentally accounted for 25 percent of the company’s sales in the U.S.in 2015 – saying the hood of the vehicle opens unexpectedly.
