Nita Ambani becomes first Indian woman IOC member
Nita Ambani has become the first Indian woman member of International Olympic Committee. First Indian woman to be elected to the IOC.

A proud moment for India as Nita Ambani was formally elected as an individual member of the International Olympic Committee (ICC) at its 129th session. Raja Randhir Singh is now holding the post of an honorary member after serving the worldwide body from 2000-2014.
Sachin Tendulkar, Nita Ambani and Mukesh Ambani are in Rio as the opening ceremony concludes at the Maracana Stadium.
She is involved in promoting multiple sports in India with a focus on developing talent through a number of large-scale grassroots initiatives. Ambani, who was elected on Thursday, is the only individual member from India.
In other elections, Juan Antonio Samaranch Junior, son of former International Olympic Committee chief Juan Antonio Samaranch Senior, was elected as vice president while pole vault great Sergei Bubka retained his position in the executive board.
Nita Ambiani also heads the Reliance Foundation and is the chairperson of the franchise-based Indian Super League soccer tournament.

Priyanka on Thursday took to Twitter, where she also said that Indian sports needs a passionate supporter like her. “So very proud of you Nita Ambani”. The grassroots programs that she has initiated have reached out to over 3 million children in multiple sports. “This is a recognition of the growing importance of India in the world stage and a recognition for Indian women”, Nita said in a release. “I look forward to making a meaningful contribution to furthering the spirit of Olympism and the ideals of the Olympic movement‚ especially on the African continent”. She was of the belief that sports has always helped to shape the youth and brings people together through different communities, cultures, and generations.
