Nitish Katara killing: South Carolina declines death sentence plea
The Supreme Court, on 9 October, ruled that the murder of Nitish Katara in 2002 was not a case of honor killing and his killers Vikas and Vishal Yadav can not be sentenced to death. But rejecting her plea, the court observed that “it is just a murder and not heinous”.

She sought enhancement of the sentence to death or alternatively imprisonment for whole life. “I am bit surprised on that, we will submit the evidences once again with more facts next time”, Neelam Katara said after the apex court gave its verdict. The duo had objections to Nitish’s alleged relationship with their sister, Bharti Yadav.
The court said that it could not be termed as honour killing as the Yadav family had not objected to their friendship.
Vikas and Vishal Yadav were convicted for the murder of Nitish Katara earlier this year.

Vikas Yadav, son of Uttar Pradesh politician DP Yadav, had pleaded before the court that his conduct had been good throughout his 13 years in jail.
