Notre Dame wide receiver Corey Robinson will discontinue his playing career due to multiple concussions, the program announced today.

Robinson did not participate in Notre Dame’s summer workouts, which began last weekend.
The San Antonio native, former four-star recruit and son of NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson caught 16 passes for 200 yards with a touchdown as a junior in 2015.
Coach Brian Kelly says Robinson sets “a remarkable example” for Irish players. The 21-year-old student-body president said he will focus on other interests.
But, like it or not, this is a tradition that Coach Kelly will be adding to the long list for Notre Dame football beginning this season.
Corey Robinson, who would have been entering his senior season with the Irish, has suffered multiple diagnosed concussions during his career.
Robinson did not participate in Notre Dame’s recent offseason workouts with The Program Athletics, per Andrew Owens of Blue & Gold Illustrated. He went on to say he would help the team as an assistant during his senior year on campus. His best season came in 2014, when he hauled in 40 receptions for 539 yards and five scores. “And that’s going to be the player that exemplifies himself both on and off the field in a manner that represents all the things we want a Notre Dame football player to represent”. Kelly said that the players who wear numbers two through nine will be assigned before the season and won’t change on a weekly basis but they’ll still be earned.

“This was an extremely tough decision for Corey”, Kelly said in a statement.
