No. 1 pick Jared Goff will be Rams’ backup QB on Sunday
“He’s a big man inside, and you have to have that nowadays”, Rams coach Jeff Fisher said.

The former first round pick is looking for a solid breakout season and 2016 could be it. Goff, who the Rams took with the top pick, isn’t even second string. It started with Sam Bradford, then Kellen Clemens, then Austin Davis, then Shaun Hill, then Nick Foles, and now Case Keenum. “I’m just glad it’s done, so I can get that little thing out of my mind and focus just on football”. As for Fisher personally, he hasn’t coached a team to a.500 record since 2009, been to the playoffs since 2008, or won a playoff game since 2003. We’ll be interested to see whether the Rams turn to Sean Mannion instead of Goff once Keenum inevitably plays his himself off the field. Sep. Case Keenum was a joke of a starting quarterback in the Rams’ embarrassing Week 1 loss to the 49ers, but Fisher is prepared to ride it out until he absolutely has to make a change.
Following the Los Angeles Rams’ embarrassing beatdown on Monday night at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, there has been the constant pressing question regarding the availability of rookie quarterback Jared Goff for the team’s Week 2 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
The results weren’t exactly a surprise after the Rams finished 32nd in the National Football League in total offense and passing offense last season, and then didn’t anything in the offseason beyond rookies Tyler Higbee, who started at tight end, and Goff. Most head coaches would’ve been fired by now, but not only does Fisher still have his job, he’s also expected to sign a three-year contract extension that will be announced any day now, according to ESPN’s John Clayton. The Seahawks were all over Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill in Week 1 and likely feature a deeper and more talented defensive line than they had a year ago.
Keenum is still the starter, but Fisher said the team is confident Goff would be ready to play if needed.
Meaning, he won’t win them a damn thing but he’s good enough to keep them from devolving into the Browns.

That said, Goff is now in the position to possibly be called upon if Keenum has another porous performance like he experienced against the 49ers. Which means that the Rams, who look like one of the NFL’s worst teams, will roll with Keenum. The next year, they were in Nashville, but went 8-8 again after needing to play at Vanderbilt Stadium.
