Until late October, Johnson was taking all of his practice reps in the Bears’ receiver rotation.

Baylor’s next test will be versus the TCU Horned Frogs on November 27 at 6:30 p.m.at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Sterling Shepard and Dede Westbrook have combined for 1,762 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns while Durron Neal has 41 receptions.

“In the last couple of weeks in practice, since he moved back to quarterback, he’s really gotten sharp, I mean really sharp”, Briles said. Walsh was only utilized six times all night and was responsible for a pair of touchdowns, but couldn’t get on the field thanks to the deficit. Expect the Bears to earn a win by more than a touchdown.

Yes, there still is hope for a Baylor playoff run.

Quarterback Mason Rudolph, whose only loss in his 13-game career came in his debut a season ago against Baylor, drove the Cowboys to Baylor’s 9-yard line.

TCU jumped out to an early lead on a pair of long passes from freshman starter Foster Sawyer to Kolby Listenbee, but Oklahoma’s defense and running game dominated the rest of the half as the Sooners cruised to a 23-7 lead. “But we’ve got guys that can play”, Johnson said. Now it’s redshirt sophomore Chris Johnson stepping in for Stidham. Asked after the game about Stidham’s health, Briles sighed and opted for truth: “Honestly, he’s not very good”. Johnson moved back to quarterback when starter Seth Russell went down and the Bears had to move onto Stidham. “We said it was going to be worth it”, he said. “I always believed my opportunity was going to come”. Impressive. Chances of making the playoff: 10 percent; the Bears must beat TCU, then get a lot of help and some love from the committee that won’t be easy to garner. Consider the rushing offense totals: Baylor 304, Oklahoma State 8.

“He’s a phenomenal athlete”.

“There’s teams definitely that are good enough to get in there and compete and win, so I would agree with what you’re saying”, Gundy responded. Elimination game between playoff hopefuls. Briles made it clear Monday that he considers Johnson capable of delivering on both quests despite minimal experience at the college level.
