No. 11 Gators control SEC East fate as rival Georgia awaits

“It doesn’t matter what part of the country you grew up in, you knew the Florida-Georgia game was going to be a national televised game and you kind of set your calendar by it. I’m looking forward to coming over that Hart Bridge and seeing what this thing looks like and having an opportunity to play in Jacksonville, a city that embraces it”. Every other team in the East will have three conference losses and Florida would hold the tiebreaker over everyone.

Harris played primarily on special teams last season, but the redshirt sophomore has often seen first-team defensive drills in practice.

Much is at stake Saturday when Florida and Georgia meet in Jacksonville.

“They’re definitely looking for a few revenge because I think we embarrassed them past year”, Florida cornerback Quincy Wilson said.

“First and foremost, this is one of those deals where this is what college football is all about”, McElwain said last week on the SEC teleconference.

“We’re going to come in ready to play hard and be on top of our game in order to give ourselves a chance”, Theus said. “We think they’re all big, but certainly this one is one everybody gets excited about regardless of the record”. But this is a darn good (Georgia) football team now. UF rallied from 14-down to tie LSU in Baton Rouge in the second half, but then lost 35-28 on a fake field goal in the fourth quarter. And don’t be fooled, Georgia is a desperate team.

“The way we kind of approach things is we should be (in this position)”, McElwain said. “It’s not saying, ‘I’ve gotta be a tackle.’ It’s saying, ‘Put me in, coach, wherever you want me ’cause I’m gonna help this team get better.’ And that’s what I love about him”. It was a good start to the week and we’ll keep it going on Tuesday.

Maybe that bodes well for the Bulldogs, because they’re the underdog this year. Point unfold: The Gators opened as 2.5-point favorites, in accordance to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark (line updates & matchup report).

“This is why you get into it, to play in games like this. If you’re not prepared and you’re scared, then this probably isn’t the place for you because this is the expectation of the University of Florida”. [Sony]Michel and [Keith]Marshall, who are both highly recruited guys that have stepped in and, obviously, the thing that kind of stands out as you watch it is their overall team speed. And there aren’t many who expect the Bulldogs to win this Saturday.

“A lot of guys in that environment have pressed over the years”, McElwain said. “But at the end of the day, we have to make sure we take care of us and play with detail and execution”. That isn’t how we’re gonna win.

Like polls in early October, however, it’s always fun to discuss the possibilities. “Have I just said, ‘Look at this?’ That takes care of itself if you do all the things you need to do to be successful”.
