No. 11 TCU falls short to No. 7 Oklahoma 30-29

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Monday that the Heisman hopeful has checked out well since then and plans called for him to do some light work at practice later in the day.

Mayfield took a helmet-to-helmet hit from linebacker Ty Summers early in the second quarter of Saturday’s 30-29 win. Mayfield has thrown for 3,209 yards, the 16h-most in the country, and 33 touchdowns, the fourth-most in the country. Fifth-ranked Oklahoma (10-1, 7-1 Big 12) can clinch the Big 12 conference title with a victory over the ninth-ranked Cowboys (10-1, 7-1).

With Mayfield on the sidelines, the Oklahoma offense crumbled in the second half, as the Sooners almost blew a 17-point fourth-quarter lead. Now, we get ready for the biggest battle, and the last fight, of our year. “He was the one that wanted to get taped up and go [on Sunday]”, Patterson said. “We just laid it all out there, and we unfortunately came up short”. Mayfield stayed in the game, but admitted to trainers he had a headache at halftime.

“That’ll all be up to our doctors and trainers”, Stoops said after the game.

“I sure don’t know anything right now”, Stoops said.

Without injured offensive stars Trevone Boykin and Josh Doctson, TCU (9-2, 6-2, No. 18 CFP) turned the ball over four times, leading to 24 Oklahoma points. “They had no timeouts left, and if we make it, they only have 50 seconds to go a long way”. Oklahoma appeared on its way to a comfortable victory when they lost catalyst quarterback Baker Mayfield to an apparent concussion – he didn’t return after halftime. “We weren’t very consistent at all”.

Trevor Knight stepped in and completed just 5 of 16 passes for 76 yards, with one interception.

Washington State: Athletic director Bill Moos says quarterback Luke Falk is doing well after suffering an apparent head injury and might be able to play in Friday’s Apple Cup against Washington.

Perine proved he was OK on a 72-yard touchdown run, putting OU up 30-13 with 7:55 left in the third. Green became TCU’s first thousand yard rusher since Ed Wesley in 2010 on his way to a 127 yard performance, and his TD run immediately following the muffed punt snap changed the momentum and put TCU in the driver’s seat for the first time all game. But redshirt freshman Foster Sawyer, making his first career start after coming on in relief after Boykin suffered an ankle sprain a week earlier against Kansas, got off to a hot start with the help of receiver Kolby Listenbee. “They’ll be thorough, though, in checking him, and do what they need to do”.
