No. 16 Iowa throttles Iowa State 42-3

IOWA: The Hawkeyes offense has the potential to be one of the best that Ferentz has ever had. The Cyclones had just 14 pass completions in 35 attempts. Beathard threw two of his three touchdown passes in the first quarter, opening the scoring with a nine-yard toss to George Kittle and following that up with a 26-yarder to Akrum Wadley. But a pair of sacks by Iowa forced the Cyclones to settle for a 31-yard field goal by senior kicker Cole Netten, trimming their deficit down to 11 points.

Allen Lazard was the lone bright spot for ISU, finishing with seven receptions for 111 yards.

Consecutive passes of 25 and 15 yards to VandeBerg preceded an 18-yard run by Wadley that preceded his second touchdown run of the game, a three-yard carry through the heart of an Iowa State defense which surrendered 302 yards in the game’s first three quarters.

Iowa State will receive the ball to start the second half. Even though the Cyclones line figures to have a tough time with Iowa’s front seven, expect the Cyclones to try to get Warren going in the first half. Daniels’ score was set up by an interception by junior linebacker Ben Niemann. Now starting quarterback CJ Beathard and the Iowa Hawkeyes look to remain undefeated and keep their number fifteen ranking in the nation intact as they head into today’s in-state rivalry game. NOTES: Iowa sophomore offensive lineman Lucas LeGrand started at center in place of sophomore James Daniels, who was out with a knee injury.

The Iowa Hawkeyes (1-0) outlasted the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks last week. Saturday’s victory over Iowa State was the first for Iowa against the Cyclones at Kinnick Stadium since 2010.
