Florida held North Texas to just 53 yards of total offense, which set a school record for the least number of yards gained by a Gator opponent.

The Florida Gators suffered a huge blow during last night’s game against North Texas. Josh Malone led in receiving with 69 yards and two touchdowns while Jason Croom had 54 yards in three receptions.

Coach Jim McElwain officially ruled Del Rio out Monday because of a knee injury, saying he won’t play at No. 14 Tennessee (3-0) on Saturday and could miss more time. “It doesn’t matter who is playing quarterback, running back, receiver…we step out on that field, and our job is to not let the opposing team score”. All we have to go on are three words from McElwain: “Doesn’t look good”.
“I really care about these players”, McElwain said after the game. Joshua Dobbs threw for 203 yards and 2 touchdowns in 9-for-27 passes. Austin Appleby will likely start against Tennessee. This game will decide a lot for the future, and is mandatory for each team to win this game. “You don’t ever want to be somebody’s caddie”, Appleby said.
“We got a guy that we’re extremely confident in just based on the preparation that he puts into the game and how hard to goes at it in practice each and every day”, star linebacker Jarrad Davis said. We have to get better in a hurry in the small details, but the exciting thing is that it’s all correctable.
It was a tough break for Florida last week losing Del Rio late in the third quarter, but they have to come in with the mindset of next man up. It’s a great opportunity for Austin (Appleby), Felipe (Franks) and Kyle (Trask).
Florida redshirt junior QB Luke Del Rio’s injury is a sprained MCL in his left knee. “He didn’t have to go under the knife yet, so I take that as a positive”.
As of now, McElwain said they are going to prepare this week like they will not have Del Rio against the Vols. Tabor said that regardless if Del Rio is the leader of the offense, it will not make one difference to the defense.
Appleby and Del Rio were in a tight battle for the starting role through the spring and into preseason camp, where Del Rio was eventually named the starter.
Upon seeing the hit, which he thought to be a dirty play, McElwain began yelling over at the North Texas sideline, so angrily that he had to be pulled back by his own players. If they can get me some cash, that’d be awesome.
It was a memorable night for the Florida defense, but Luke Del Rio’s status is now uncertain moving forward. “Thank you for your love and support Gator Nation as well. I got their back”. The old record of 59 came against Western Carolina in 2006.
