No. 3 Alabama runs past Wisconsin

Wisconsin lost its play-caller in the secondary and an emotional, physical leader. It looked like Caputo went low trying to tackle Derrick Henry and may have hit his head into Henry’s knee or someone else in the scrum of players.

But as 64,279 watched Saturday night at AT&T Stadium, the No. 3 Crimson Tide relied on suffocating defense and big plays from junior running back Derrick Henry to gradually pull away from the No. 18 Badgers. “It was good to see him make some good runs out there”.

(12) Clemson 49, Wofford 10: Deshaun Watson threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns in less than a half and the Tigers moved to 30-0 against FCS opponents with a victory over Wofford (0-1) in Clemson, South Carolina. Alabama has gotten smaller in the secondary to keep up with the advancing passing game in college football, so the Tide should be prepared to make things hard for Stave.

The Tide’s win also capped a fairly decent day for the conference.

This game is being played on a neutral site, like several key games this weekend. Saban bristled at a reporter’s question about using this game specifically to create quarterback competition against a heavy underdog but is hoping both can build off a successful opener. Clement ran for 949 yards and nine scores in the same backfield with Gordon (2,587 yards and 29 TDs), who finished second in the voting behind Heisman Trophy victor Marcus Mariota. Cooper Bateman, a mobile sophomore, came on late in the third quarter with the Tide leading by 18 points.

Coker earned the majority of the time under center, playing into the third quarter. He was injured in the first half of the opener and struggled to run before finally being removed from the lineup. But Henry ran through his grasp like Sheehy was a scout team safety.

Chryst said win or lose, there are areas to be the best team you can be.

Over their next two possessions, Wisconsin managed just four yards over six plays before Alabama once again marched downfield and Henry pounded the ball in once again.

Alabama: QB TBA. Coach Nick Saban hasn’t dropped any hints about who will start. He completed 15 of 21 passes for 213 yards.

Quarterback Joel Stave looked for his running backs often in UW’s season-opening loss to Alabama. I would be very surprised to see him on the field when Wisconsin hosts Miami (Ohio) this upcoming Saturday.

“I think that there’s been a little inconsistency sometime in his drop, which was the problem with the poor kick on Saturday in that he dropped the ball on the outside”, Saban said.

The 2014 FWAA second-team All-American was removed from the remainder of the game, and the extent of his injury was unknown, as Wisconsin only said that he had a head injury.

Here’s another angle from College GameDay where he just emerges from the traffic in the middle, shakes the nose guard and springs to the house for the first Alabama touchdown of the year. Despite some uncertainty, especially at the quarterback situation, it’s another SEC Championship-or-bust season for the Crimson Tide.
