Clemson, with three wins to open the season for the fifth time in six years, is 31-0 against Division I-AA teams.

The Tigers led 31-0 through 15 minutes of action, setting program records both for its highest-scoring first quarter and largest lead at the end of the first.

South Carolina State already faced an uphill battle Saturday in its game against No. 5-ranked Clemson. Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott began his coaching career as receivers coach at South Carolina State and coach Buddy Pough in 2006 and 2007.

He threw the ball to the ref, who wanted nothing to do with it since it was still live. “We’ve had the three-game trip from hell”, Pough said.

“It really started Monday when the guys got back”.

“Of course, I’m competitive, I want to play”, Watson said.

Even Huegel felt swayed by the need to improve his play, pounding all five of his first-quarter kickoffs into the end zone.

Watson completed 12 of 15 passes for 152 yards.

N.C. STATE 49, ODU 22: Backup quarterback Jalan McClendon rushed for two touchdowns and threw for a third, and the host Wolfpack routed Old Dominion to bounce back from a dispiriting loss at East Carolina.

2012: Florida State 55, Savannah State 0: After a 56-minute weather delay in the second quarter with Florida State ahead 48-0, officials agreed to use a running clock. All of Clemson’s starters and many second-stringers had left the game before halftime. “We have eight straight conference games and we have a quick turnaround this week and we have a lot of work to do to get ready for Georgia Tech”. The Clemson-Louisville debate should be settled at Death Valley in two weeks when Louisville plays here on October 1.
