Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly might not have been happy with how his team played Saturday, but he’s at least happy to see his Fighting Irish beat Boston College. It is a series where Notre Dame home games are being played outside of South Bend.

The field was laid out from the third-base line to the right-field bullpens, with the yard markers and end zones decorated in the old-style font of the Red Sox. Notre Dame also coughed up the ball at the Eagles’ 3 and at the BC 32. But after the ensuing kickoff put the Eagles at the 20, Smith ran a keeper 80 yards for a Boston College touchdown that drew Boston College within 10, 19-9, with 10:17 left.
The Eagles, already eliminated from bowl contention, could make its season with a marquee win over the No. 4 Irish at Fenway tonight.
Boston College will start John Fadule at quarterback, the fourth Eagles quarterback of the 2015 season.
