No. 7 Oklahoma 30, No. 18 TCU 29

While Patterson stands by that final decision to forgo the extra-point, he indicated that his decision to attempt a two-point conversion just after halftime following an Aaron Green touchdown run was the wrong one. His long-term health is considerably more important, though, than any football game, even one with everything on the line like will be the case in Stillwater this weekend.

Let’s start with the obvious: Gary Patterson was absolutely wrong to go for two at the end of the game.

“There’s certainly room for optimism, but we do have a protocol we have to go through – some serial testing and progressions of activity, and we’re in the midst of that now”, he said.

If coach Mark Dantonio and his staff can come up with a plan to win at Ohio State without Cook, beating the Nittany Lions (7-4) with Tyler O’Connor and Damion Terry should be more than doable.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Monday that his top quarterback Baker Mayfield should be able to play against Oklahoma State, Saturday night. And if you think they were suddenly going to prove capable of moving the ball in overtime after being incapable of doing so for virtually the entire second half, then I’ve got a bridge I’d like to sell you. “You can win when you’re still not at your best”. Backup freshman quarterback Foster Sawyer, who started in place of an injured Trevone Boykin, threw three interceptions in the loss. That same formula almost worked to perfection for No. 18 TCU, but Bram Kohlhausen’s go-ahead two-point pass was batted away by Oklahoma’s Steven Parker and the 7th-ranked Sooners survived, 30-29. Knight’s performance validated Mayfield’s position as a starter, as he hit only 5-of-16 throws for 76 yards and an interception. But he just doesn’t make the kind of impact plays Walker does, and I can’t help but feel their respective number of snaps should reflect that. That’s what we’ve been taught to do.

After TCU had come out in the second half and cut the score to 23-13, Perine decided that it was time to widen that gap once again. He did not play in the second half after taking a hard hit from TCU linebacker Ty Summers, who was ejected for targeting. To everyone’s surprise, Trevor Knight was in at quarterback on the opening drive to replace Mayfield, who was ruled out of the game by the OU team doctors during halftime for precautionary reasons.

Throughout the majority of the second half, Oklahoma was the dominant team. “We weren’t very consistent at all”.

Not only was Mayfield hurt, but Perine appeared to have hurt his leg while getting tackled on OU’s opening possession of the second half.

After falling behind, 30-13, TCU scored a touchdown with a chance to tie against Oklahoma with less than a minute left.

“He had a slight ankle sprain”, Stoops said.
