No. 9 Florida State beats Boston College 14-0

Clemson and Louisville are squaring off on Thursday night.

Florida State has won both games against subpar opponents. On the other side, FSU has defeated Texas State 59-16 and South Florida 34-14 just last week. Those would be the last points Florida State’s offense would score the rest of the evening.

And then there was Boston College.

By the time the clock hit zero, the Eagles had mustered just 195 yards of total offense and a meager 3.4 yards per play. After giving up 83 yards on that first drive, BC allowed only 134 yards for the remainder of the game.

Boston College will need a strong outing from its QB as well, and hosting the ninth-ranked Seminoles presents a mental challenge for sophomore Darius Wade.

The offense never got going, placing a burden on FSU’s defense.

Boston College defensive back Kamrin Moore (5) breaks up the pass…

“I felt in the second half that we would come out and I thought we would play a pretty good second half”. That’s helped Golson cut down on the turnovers that cost him the starting job at Notre Dame a season ago, and he’s yet to play as though he’ll be the reason the Seminoles lose a game. The Eagles scored two touchdowns to make the final margin 76. Flutie, the nephew of former Boston College great Doug Flutie, had a short rally but it fell well short.

Hampton finished with 459 total yards to 341 for Howard. “We are not good enough against that kind of team to go 90 yards”. A year after losing quarterback Jameis Winston, Everett Golson will be tested early and often. Jamie Cunningham had a touchdown pass and a 2-point conversion pass to Freeman, but also threw three interceptions.

First, Cook’s apparent 66-yard TD run was called back after it was ruled he stepped out of bounds at the BC 38. Cook has 422 rushing yards in just 2 games. Whoever starts at quarterback – injured starter Travis Wilson or backup Kendal Thompson – may end up handing the ball off to Devontae Booker 25 times.

The shutout was the Broncos’ first since a 45-0 win over New Mexico on December . 3, 2011. The Seminoles compete in the Atlantic Division of the ACC, where coming into Week 3, five teams remained unbeaten. Of course, no team wants to lean on its punter too much. Head coach Jimbo Fisher certainly wasn’t complaining after the game- andy why would he? Don’t be fooled by the Eagles ability to score points against cupcake opponents.

The Eagles gained some traction against Florida State’s smothering defense by driving to midfield, but after taking a 5-yard false-start penalty, Wade turned it over when his deep ball intended for Thad Smith on third and 9 from the BC 49 was picked off by Florida State safety Lamarcus Brutus at the FSU 13. The Eagles’ 14-0 loss to Florida State last night at Alumni Stadium served as the annual “Service Game” – and a chance to remember “The Man in the Red Bandana”.
