No. 9 Georgia turns to freshman QB Eason against Nicholls

During his hourlong radio talk show Thursday, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said the team had yet to make a decision.

Georgia freshman QB Jacob Eason was 8-of-12 for 131 yards and a touchdown while splitting reps with Grayson Lambert last week in a win over North Carolina.

Feldman wrote, “The Georgia star, who tops my early Heisman Top 5, went for 222 yards in the Dawgs’ comeback win over UNC”.

Saturday’s game may be an audition for Eason, the former #1 ranked high school quarterback recruit in the country, the claim that role before SEC play begins.

Chubb’s re-emergence was perhaps more important to Georgia’s championship hopes than the ongoing competition between Greyson Lambert and Jacob Eason for the starting job at quarterback. Chubb also set a record not even three quarters into college football season (154 running yards from scrimmage before the fourth quarter even started). “I’m pleased with how the kids responded to us challenging them to practice better and play better technique”.

Within the first couple of minutes Eason was played, he managed to nearly double the yard count of his counterpart.

“It’s time to get our team better, and there are a lot of areas of improvement that we need to improve on”, he said. Matthew Stafford is the last true freshman quarterback to start for the Bulldogs. They both have their strong points and those strong points are different.

It will come in the Bulldogs’ home opener in only the second game of the season. Everything they got, we gave it to them, basically. “We’re going to continue to have competition each week regardless of who trots out there first on Saturday”, Smart told the Banner-Herald.

“When we clean up those mistakes, I don’t think you’ll see anything like that again”.

The Nicholls State Colonels and Georgia Bulldogs clash Saturday afternoon at Sanford Stadium. Two of the Bulldogs’ next three games – at Missouri (0-1) September 17, at No. 18 Ole Miss (0-1) September 24 and hosting No. 14 Tennessee (1-0) October 1 – are against ranked teams and could ultimately determine if Georgia wins its first SEC East Division title since 2012.
