Virginia Commonwealth University has given students the all clear to return to business as normal after issuing an alert about a possible gunman near campus Friday morning.
The man was last reported walking east on Grace Street from Belvidere Street near the Richmond, Virginia school, officials said.
The alert warned students to avoid the area and said campus police were on the scene.
The situation unfolded when police say multiple reports came in around 10 a.m. about an armed party heading toward VCU’s Monroe Park campus.
The report has been made less than a day since a shooter killed nine at Oregon college before being shot by police. The killer died after exchanging gunfire with two police officers who confronted him.

He added that it is “perfectly legal” in Virginia to carry a weapon openly.
