No exchange of candies at Wagah this year

In a departure from tradition, the BSF has decided that it will neither offer nor accept sweets and gifts from the Pakistani Rangers.

While Pakistan will celebrate its Independence Day on Friday, India’s falls on Saturday.

“No candies were offered by either side”, a BSF officer said here. The exchange of candies at borders has been a customary practice, but relations between the two countries have worsened this year due to frequent violations of a ceasefire line dividing the border between the two countries.

Despite hostilities, Indian BSF and Pakistan Rangers have traditionally exchanged candies at border crossings, particularly at the Wagah-Attari border on Independence Day. “There is going to be no exchange this year at the Wagah border”.

BSF, IG, Anil Palliwal said “This time there won’t be any exchange of sweets, we won’t be taking sweets and we are not offering also this time”.

The Border Security Force headquarters here has communicated the decision in this regard to their formations in the western sector of the country where its troops guard the worldwide Border (IB) with Pakistan along Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir independently.
