‘No fuss’ private cremation for David Bowie

Bowie died from cancer aged 69, two days after releasing his 25th album, Blackstar.

Singer Tina Turner is the latest celebrity to pay tribute to Bowie, saying “a piece of my heart has broken”. “Bowie made so many great albums, constantly reinventing himself, that everyone has their own favourites and fans are clearly reminding themselves of his massive contribution to popular music by paying these great, iconic works”.

Rock legend David Bowie’s death has prompted a massive outpouring of grief and tributes.

In New York, where the Bowie spent much of his life, a memorial concert at Carnegie Hall will honour the star on March 31. The show, announced hours before Bowie’s death, was originally scheduled as a tribute with performances of the singer’s hit songs by Visconti, Cyndi Lauper, and The Roots among others.

Lady Gaga, also known for her detailed costumes and stage shows, discussed Bowie in an interview that took place some time before the musician’s death.

The organiser’s official website stated, “This year’s concert will certainly be remembered as a poignant celebration of his music by his friends, peers and fans”.

Van Hove said that at the Lazarus premiere in NY on December 7, Bowie collapsed from exhaustion – “It was then that I realised it may be the last time I would see him”.

The 69-year-old passed away “surrounded by his loved ones” following a battle with cancer, his family confirmed.

Bowie battled cancer for 18 months and learned in November that his illness was terminal. He also sings about being in “danger” and his past “living like a king in NY”.

Speaking about the sad news of Bowie’s, Mayor of Cannes, David Lisnard, said: “David Bowie had immeasurable talent and demonstrated unparalleled levels of freedom”.
