China and Russian Federation flagsPutin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, both firmly devoted to a vigorous bilateral relationship and frequent visitors to each other’s countries, will hold their seventh meeting since a year ago.
He also underlined, following the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan, that the Brexit is Britons’ choice and Moscow has never interfered in the issue. “Thus we maintain a high level of our strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation contributing to the healthy development of regional and global politics”, the Chinese leader said.
President Vladimir Putin has yet to comment on the result of the referendum, but his spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he hoped the decision to leave the European Union would not hurt Britain’s bilateral ties with Russian Federation.
Xi Jinping said China and Russian Federation are major economies and emerging markets, adding that the two sides should integrate the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union for broader regional economic cooperation.
“We see each other as close allies, so of course we always listen to each other, by this I mean we keep in mind each other’s interests”, he told Xinhua news agency on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. This year’s G20 leaders’ summit will be held in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the China-Russia Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, the legal foundation of their bilateral relationship, which features nonalignment, non-confrontation, and is not targeted at any third party.
Putin flew straight from Tashkent after a regional summit that both leaders attended. Currency exchange and multilateral financial cooperation were also on the agenda in the two countries’ cooperation, Li was quoted as saying by CNS.
In a recent meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), all five members – Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russian Federation – expressed support for carrying out cooperation with China within the Belt framework, Putin recalled.
Highlighting about the Moscow-Kazan high-speed railway project, Putin said smoothly running high-speed railway project is probably just the beginning of massive cooperation between Russian Federation and China on infrastructure construction.
He said the priority for the three neighbors is to discuss details of linking their development strategies and to build the China-Mongolia-Russia corridor, which has been declared part of the Silk Road Economic Belt.
Li also noticed the increasingly strong cooperation between China and Russian Federation in regional and worldwide affairs.
“As we know, President Xi Jinping has launched an initiative to revitalize the idea of the Great Silk Road”, Putin said.
