Reuters reported that a vehicle rammed through the barriers at about 3 am local time and one or more attackers caused a bomb explosion near the laboratories which then caught fire.
RTBF did not attribute the information provided in the report.
Other reports said police were deployed in force and the area was cordoned off.
Belgium is on high alert because of the recent terrorist attacks on the city’s airport and metro.
The attack was carried out by more than one person, van Wymersch said. This explosion has no injuries, said the prosecutor of Brussels.
One or more attackers exploded the bomb near the site’s laboratories, causing a fire.
Suspects set fire to a lab used to analyse DNA samples found at crime scenes.
Five people arrested near the site following the blast have been released without charge.
Bomb explosion at 02:30 GMT has woke up the residents of Neder-Over-Heembeek, northern Brussels.
Prosecutors said authorities suspected the attack was an attempt to destroy sensitive files held by the federal justice agency which carries out scientific analyses in criminal cases.

Fire service spokesperson Pierre May told AFP, “The explosion was extremely powerful.Windows of the lab were blown out dozens of metres away”. Numerous attackers had links to Belgium.
