No injuries when shots fired at Haywood church
A man and officers exchanged fire in a stand-off after the lone gunman opened fired outside a Waynesville church.

Deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a church in Haywood County, according to WHNS.
Deputies responded to calls of gunfire at about 3:15 p.m.at Maple Cove Baptist Church, Bill Miller, Haywood County sheriff’s department spokesperson confirmed.
The weapon the man had was not immediately known.
WLOS-TV reports it happened around 3 p.m. The station said multiple law enforcement agencies are on the scene in Haywood County but reporters are being kept well back. No law enforcement officers were injured.
No one else was inside the church at the time.
No officers were injured but Emergency Medical Services were called to offer help to the suspect.
Officials say there was an active search for a man who is armed and unsafe.

The pastor of the church tells FOX Carolina that the suspected shooter was not a church member.
