No longer patient, Bush backers fret about sluggish campaign

The move came as his poll numbers with Republican voters slid downward. But for Jeb Bush, it may be downright impossible.

“The patient is either in intensive care and in need of a few good doctors who can save him or being put into hospice and we’re going to see a slow death”, said one K Street lobbyist supporting Mr. Bush.

Bush said the campaign “adjustments” will mean a greater focus on the early primary contests, including South Carolina.

But interviews with supporters in early states reveal concerns that extend far beyond the campaign’s allocation of resources.

During the forum audience members sent in questions to Bush. It’s not about the broad policy issue, is were we doing the job of protecting our embassies and our consulates and during the period, those hours after the attack started, could they have been saved? “We are who we are”.

“Every dollar we can save in, in overhead is a dollar that goes on television, goes on radio, goes on media, goes on voter outreach”, said Bush. “Unless he does something like that, it’s going to be hard”.

Three generations of the most famous family in Texas politics are planning to descend on Houston in the coming days to rally with major donors to Jeb Bush’s presidential campaign – and try to raise more money for the former Florida governor.

When asked about his campaign having problems, he answered “Blah, blah, blah, blah, that’s my answer, blah, blah, blah”.

“I really don’t want to do this, to be honest with you”, Carson, a retired neurosurgeon said in Iowa several months ago. The tour then moves to Orlando and Jacksonville that day.

“It would be a heck of an interesting presidential campaign”, Wegner said.

Trump made those comments just days after Bush sounded like he might be ready to concede to the flamboyant businessman at a South Carolina event.

George Bush did not keep American safe; Jeb Bush is wrong again as is the Republican Party.

Former President George Bush, 91 and frail, is straining to understand an election season that has, for his son and the Republican Party, lurched sharply and stunningly off script. And he is often bewildered by what he sees.

“Here was, to the minds of most, the most serious frontrunner the Republicans have, and he’s been knocked down to reducing staff and fighting for his life”, said Malloy. Trump’s unexpected rise has pulled attention away from other candidates and revealed deep voter frustration with Washington and experienced politicians.

“Within about a month, he’s going to need to step forth”, said Barbara Smeltzer, a longtime GOP activist from Dubuque, Iowa. But, the gathering was more of a rescue operation for a candidate who looks unable to meet the expectations of the Bush family brand. “That’s up to his campaign to turn that around”.

Bush aides say they’ve been trying to do just that, with both the campaign and Right to Rise super PAC blanketing the airwaves with advertisements. The super PAC has spent about $2 million each week on ads, CMAG shows.

Jeb Bush is already planning his next trip to the state for fundraising.

Only a quarter of Bush’s staff will remain in Miami, according to an internal campaign memo. “He’s cutting back big”, Trump told a raucous crowd of thousands gathered along Jacksonville’s riverfront, in one of Florida’s most conservative cities.

Bush touted his record as governor in cutting the budget and creating and expanding private-school choice, “ending social promotion in the third grade” by holding children back who are not reading on grade level and growing the number of charter schools.
