“3 years of secret stupid legal nonsense over”, Murray’s post reads. We wonder what No Man’s Sky would have been called if they couldn’t use the word “sky”.

Hello Games founder Sean Murray showcases their new game “No Man’s Sky” at E3. Sky TV seems to have exclusive rights to the word but it is weird that there are hundreds of video games and movies with the word “sky” in it and they do not seem to be sued by the firm. While many fans had thought the name No Man’s Sky was set in stone, it turns out that the space-faring simulator has been under constant legal pressure from London-based mass media company Sky TV to remove the Sky portion of game’s name.

Murray recently received mountains of death threats and hate-mail for delaying No Man’s Sky from a June release into August, though he did not link the outcome of this settlement to the delay. He also joked that Sky’s tight hold on their trademark is probably the reason why “SkyNet” from the “Terminator” series never came into fruition.

In further tweets, Murray said: “This is the same folks who made Microsoft change Skydrive to Onedrive.so it was pretty serious”.
