No Man’s Sky’s massive Day One Update overhauls the entire game

To quell the worries of those who might be lead to think that Hello Games will keep requiring players to delete their saves, Murray assured that it is only because Update 1.03 is a “day zero update” and is only for this instance of the game and will not be repeated in the future.

The pre-launch buzz surrounding No Man’s Sky is such that players have been champing at the bit to get hold of early copies of Hello Games’ indie space sim. Sean Murray, creator and founder of the game, has said that the gamers who have the leaked copy should also install this update to get more content and experience. The game has also change the “paths”, there are now three which makes it easier than before for people to find each other.

Murray noted that most members of the Hello Games team were back in the office the day after No Man’s Sky went gold “five or six weeks ago” and have been working on refining the game ever since. “Lots of little details have changed (so many, SO MANY, for the better!) but the game looks and plays just as we aimed to”. Galaxies can be ten times larger. They have also added in hazardous planets and dead moons for variety in the exploration aspect of the title. We’ve been playing a store-bought copy of No Man’s Sky obsessively – I managed to reach the center of the galaxy during a Friday/Saturday 30-hour sprint – and these alterations promise to shake up everything. Temporal AA and my new cloud rendering tech should be coming soon too.

It’s a very long list, and hopefully it’ll make the game live up to your expectations.

As for the inclusions in the update, Murray said that they are now exerting a lot of effort to feature “the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters”.

As for stability, “infinite warp cell” and “rare goods trading” exploits have been removed, among a few others. Bounty missions and larger battles now occur.

The game is so big that despite featuring online multiplayer elements, players won’t need to invest in a PlayStation plus subscription to play. “Pirate frequency has been increased, as well as difficulty depending on your cargo”, the studio added. “People using these cheats were ruining the game for themselves, but people are weird and can’t stop themselves ¯/_ (シ) _/¯” Murray wrote. Wrapping up a month of work on our first update. One of the major changes is how The Universe in No Man’s Sky is generated through the new algorithm in the day one patch, Kotaku reported. Players will be able to explore 18 trillion planets which isn’t possible in one lifetime.

Networking-Ability to scan star systems other players have discovered on the Galactic Map, increasing the chance of collision.

Flying over terrain – pop-in and shadow artefacts have been reduced.

The patch will add all kinds of things, including multiple game endings, some rewritten in-game text courtesy of Deus Ex writer James Swallow, and more dramatic terrain generation and weather systems on certain planets.
