No Mario’s Sky Taken Down, Replaced With DMCA’s Sky
Over five hundred fan-made games based on major IP have been taken offline, following a legal takedown notice from Nintendo of America. But nevertheless, they immediately announced DMCA’s Sky, which is exactly the same game but without Mario’s name in the title and with some minor modifications. Thus, No Mario’s Sky received a makeover and was rebranded DMCA’s Sky as a nod to the copyright notice that caused the change.

Although the games are created by fans, Nintendo claimed that the website “generates revenue from advertising banners displayed on the site and advertisements played while users wait for the games to load”.

You can download DMCA’s Sky now sans the red hat and blue overalls. It’s similar to No Mario’s Sky, but uses a character named Spaceman Finn instead of Mario who is searching for Princess Mango, not Princess Peach. That was the case for No Mario’s Sky, which ended up being something like a basic platformer that let you fly off world so you could stomp more goombas. We would love to see an official Nintendo game in this style – a Mario Galaxy-style game in 2D within a procedurally-generated universe.
