No Oscar nerves for Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio
The nominations, announced at a pre-dawn ceremony in Beverly Hills organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, sent Hollywood’s annual awards season into high gear.

Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the President of the Academy, admitted she is disappointed in the lack of diversity and stressed that the Academy is pushing for change.
For a second year in a row, no minorities were nominated in any of the four acting categories. She added, “For me, working with David O. Russell has been nothing short of extraordinary, and I share this nomination with him as well as our incredible supporting cast”. “But this is not to take away from the greatness (of the films nominated)”.
Oscar likes epics this year, but it also likes films of quiet power.
“We gave it our all on this film, and this appreciation from the Academy means a lot to me and my colleagues who made it possible”, Inarritu said in a statement. That being said, people are exhausted of waiting around for what nearly feels like inevitable disappointment every year in terms of the lack of diversity across the Oscar categories. This year’s list of Oscar nominees won out over popular, well-reviewed performances in the movies “Creed” and “Straight Outta Compton”. Other omissions include Idris Elba, Oscar Isaac, and many more.
“I think it’s a shame there’s not more diversity on the screen because films are a mirror of humanity, we should be seeing ourselves there, all of us”.
The talked-about film tells the story of a man who is left for dead by his expedition companions after being attacked by a bear, and has received 12 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Directing.
Reacting to his nomination the actor said, “The crew is responsible for making this movie, and I’m glad they’re being recognized in this way”.
Smith, whose husband had been nominated for a Golden Globe but snubbed for the Oscars, continued: People can only treat us in the way in which we allow.

In the lead actress category, the picks came in as expected with nods for Cate Blanchett (“Carol”), Brie Larson (“Room”), Jennifer Lawrence (“Joy”), Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years”) and Saoirse Ronan (“Brooklyn”). Similarly, no women cracked the Best Director race – but, sadly, that comes as no surprise.ABC will air the Oscars live on February 28, with Chris Rock hosting.
