Meanwhile, there were indications on Sunday that the Senate President might still not appear before the CCT on Monday (today) despite the bench warrant issued on him by Justice Umar.
“According to him, there is no place in law that the bureau and the tribunal should take instructions from any quarters”.
This Court is considering issues of the Declaration of officials evade or hide their property.
“It is purely a judicial process, the type of which is routinely dealt with by the CCB and the CCT”. Even the uneducated do not want anything to happen to Bukola Saraki.
“That we believe that the Code of Conduct Bureau following their processes in which after a declaration is submitted to the bureau they carried out verification of the assets and ascertained the claims made, should not wait till 12 years later to be pointing out an alleged inconsistencies in a document submitted to it in 2003”.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement, caution against linking the President with the Saraki’s trial, saying Buhari had no hand in the trial.
The meeting, which was chaired by the Deputy Senate Leader, Bala Ibn Na’Allah, pledged to support the anti-graft war of President Buhari, but accused “a cabal” in The Presidency of instigating the government institutions against Senate President Saraki. He and his supporters allege that it was all instigated – politically.
Police investigators alleged that Mr. Saraki took a loan of N11.97 billion from the defunct InterContinental Bank of Nigeria.
“The CCT has to wait until the high court, which is superior court vacates the order before it can proceed with that matter”, he said. Where were they when he contested and was elected Senate President? But, as a man from Kwara, I will advise him to resign his appointment as Senate president because a good name is better than silver and gold.
The president said any attempt to do so would be unacceptable.
“I have mobilised more than 500 Imans and over 1,000 others are praying in different areas. Maybe there are some political opponents that are trying to get at him”, he said.
Meantime, effort to reach Saraki’s lead counsel, Mr. Daudu, SAN, yesterday, proved abortive.

Saraki himself was a director at the bank during the 1990s, and the family held a large number of its shares. He is responsible for the APC senators, PDP senators and others.
